Most online dating interactions begin in the same way: a message. But recent data shows that your geographic location has a great effect on how likely you are to receive a response to that message, especially if you live in Vancouver.
FirstMet.com recently examined interactions of single men and women in Canada between the ages of 18 and 99 to discover locations where singles were the least likely to respond to online dating messages.
Vancouver women topped the list as the least likely to respond to men’s online messages, followed by Montreal and Ottawa. On the other side, men in Winnipeg, Ottawa and Vancouver were the least likely to respond to online messages from women.
This may seem discouraging for singles that live in these cities, but data shows that a little effort goes a long way. Those who used more strategic conversation starters such as, “Do you like to travel?” received 61% more response rates compared to those that used a more cliché line like “Hi” or “What’s Up?”
Men found more success in Calgary, Edmonton and Toronto, where women were less picky more likely to respond to messages, while women received more responses from men in Toronto, Hamilton, and Montreal.
